Frequently Asked Questions

Does worn enamel cause sensitive teeth?

Yes, worn enamel can cause sensitive teeth, as the top layer of protective enamel is worn down exposing the more sensitive dentine. This can cause sharp sensitivity to hot and cold drinks

Why do my teeth hurt when I have a hot or a cold drink?

This is likely to be due to exposed dentine from thinned or worn enamel due to a cavity or receeding gums. Your dentist will be able to recommend a solution

Will a mouthguard help with sensitive teeth?

Yes a mouthguard can help if the cause of your sensitive teeth is NOT due to cavities, gum disease, or enamel erosion due to a high acid diet (fizzy drinks, wine, fruit juices). You may be grinding or clenching your teeth at night, which causes teeth sensitivity and can be alleviated by wearing a mouthguard at night.

I have receeding gums. What should I do?

Try and stop the cause of the recession. Use a soft bristled toothbrush if the recessions is caused by aggressive brushing,. If you grind at night it may cause gum recession in which case, a mouthguard worn at night may help. We can make a bespoke mouthguard for you.

I have pain and swelling in my jaw. Should I see the dentist?

Yes, swelling is a sign that you have an infection. Book an appointment asap with your dentist, to diagnose the problem. You may need to be prescribed antibiotics to treat the infection, before treatment can be carried out

We recommend you book a dental checkup appointment if you are suffering with sensitive teeth
