Dental Bridge A dental bridge is a restorative solution to fill a gap created by a missing tooth

Your dentist will assess your case and will discuss what options are available to you. This will depend on your oral health, your bone levels and budget.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic appliance that replaces a missing tooth or teeth. It fills the gap in your smile by anchoring an artificial tooth to the natural teeth on either side. Custom-coloured to blend seamlessly, bridges restore your ability to speak and chew while keeping surrounding teeth aligned.

What options are available to me to replace a missing tooth?

1

Implant

A gold-star solution to replace a missing tooth, provided bone levels are adequate. A dental implant is a permanent fixed post implanted in the jaw bone that securely holds an artificial tooth filling the gap.

2

Bridge

A durable fixed appliance and a mid-tier option. Fills the gap by anchoring an artificial tooth to neighbouring teeth. Mid-tier in terms of cost.

3

Denture

A cost-effective, removable appliance to fill the gap created by one or multiple teeth.

Both dental bridges and dental implants are good options to replace missing teeth

A dental bridge is false tooth held in place by the teeth either side of your missing tooth. This means the neighbouring teeth are affected as they are prepared/shaped to support the bridge

  • Looks good aesthetically and works well functionally
  • Stops neighbouring gteeth from shifting into the gap
  • Lasts 5-7 years (and longer with excellent oral hygiene and maintenance)
  • Lower upfront cost than an implant
  • No need for bone grafting
  • A quick solution (usually 2 appointments)

An implant is an artificial root made of titanium mounted into your jaw bone that holds a crown in place

  • Looks good aesthetically and works well functionally
  • Stops neighbouring gteeth from shifting into the gap
  • Can last up to 15 years – the longest lasting solution for a missing tooth
  • Higher upfront cost
  • Doesn’t damage/alter neighbouring teeth
  • Depending on bone levels may require a bone graft
  • More appointments required – so can take 3-4 months

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is suited to getting a dental bridge?

A patient with a ‘gap’ who has strong, healthy neighbouring teeth to support the dental bridge, and who has good oral health. The patient should be committed to a robust cleaning routine to keep the teeth supporting the bridge clean and healthy and free from debris

Are dental bridges stable?

Yes, dental bridges are very stable and are fixed permanently in your mouth. It is crucial to maintain excellent oral hygiene to maximise the longevity of your bridge.

Are there alternatives to a dental bridge?

Yes, the most cost-effective alternative to a bridge is a removable denture. The optimal alternative to a bridge is a fixed implant. The benefit here is that neighbouring teeth are not affected / modified to support the bridge.

How long does it take to get a dental bridge?

It usually two appointments 1 – 2 weeks apart. The first appointment is to design the bridge, prepare the neighbouring teeth to support the bridge, and to fit a temporary bridge while your bridge is being fabricated. The second appointment is to fit your new dental bridge.

Do you offer Finance?

Yes we offer finance for amounts starting at £500 up to £60,000 – for periods of up to 60 months
